BREAKING: Fulton County DA Seeks August 5, 2024 Trial Date for Trump in Election Interference Case
In case you missed this yesterday, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, in a court filing, asked Judge Scott McAfee to set Trump’s trial date and his co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case for August 5, 2024.
NOTE: This means that if granted, the trial would occur after the GOP primaries and just three months before the 2024 presidential election.
NOTE: There are only 92 days between August 5, 2024, and Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when the presidential election takes place in America.
NOTE: This means that if Trump wins the GOP primaries, as projected, he would spend weeks or months in court instead of campaigning.
NOTE: In case you forgot, Willis had originally sought to have all 19 defendants in the case stand trial together last month, but Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee severed the case. Now she wants Trump's trial to begin 92 days before Election Day.
NOTE: There are several possibilities: Trump could be found innocent before Election Day, boosting his chances of winning, which may not be what the Democrats want. Alternatively, he could be found guilty right before Election Day, a scenario some on the left might desire.
My take: Based on Trump's New York civil trial, rushing his criminal trial in Georgia so close to Election Day could be viewed as the most significant election interference in modern American history.
